Mexico’s third richest man mentions Bitcoin in Twitter bio

Ricardo Salinas Pliego, the chairman of the Grupo Salinas group and Mexico’s third richest man, promotes Bitcoin on social media.

The billionaire whose fortune is currently at estimated over $ 13 billion changed his Twitter bio over the weekend and added the hashtag Bitcoin (BTC). Twitter users in the crypto space and some of Salina’s over 840,000 followers reported the change on Saturday. That was around the time the price of the crypto asset was for the first time in 23 days to over $ 40,000 stieg.

Speaking to Cointelegraph in December, Salinas revealed that he first bought Bitcoin at $ 200 in 2013 and later sold it during the 2017 bull run when the price rose to $ 17,000. The crypto asset is his “best investment ever”.

In November, Salinas said it had invested 10 percent of its “liquid portfolio” in BTC, while the rest had been “invested in precious metal mines”. The 65-year-old billionaire bought before the Bitcoin course rose to new all-time highs in December and January and more than doubled its investment. He said he didn’t want to sell for at least five years.

Salinas isn’t the only billionaire using social networks to promote crypto. SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk also has the cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE) reapplied. Musk approached DOGE users in the past few weeks. The token came in a pump-and-dump fueled by Reddit traders and investors. DOGE’s price has risen almost 600 percent in the past 30 days.

At press time, Bitcoin was valued at $ 38,078. In the past 24 hours it has increased by more than 5 percent.
