The Wild Frontier Memorial Project is an association headed by members of the family of Gary Moore and by fans. One of its main objectives is to erect a Northern Irish guitarist statue in his hometown, Belfast. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his death, the association has received the political support of two parties in the City Council: Green Party Y The Alliance Party.
Belfast plans an intense program of cultural celebrations for 2023. In principle it aspired to be recognized European City of Music by the UNESCOBut the European Union has determined that UK cities are no longer eligible for that title after Brexit. Therefore, another program of activities will be developed to compensate for it.
In this framework and with the goal set in 2023, Patricia Moore, Gary’s sister, ensures that the statue would fit perfectly in recognition of the “Belfast’s greatest guitarist”. In that sense it ensures that “I know that Gary is an idol to a lot of people both in Ireland and around the world. He loved his city and although his career took him everywhere, his music was always influenced by the nature and beauty of Belfast, and of course all of Ireland. Gary was very, very proud to be from Belfast, he loved telling people it was his home. “.
The Wild Frontier Memorial Proyect He estimates that the total cost of the statue would be around 75,000 euros. It would not be the first recognition of its kind for Gary Moore, since a statue in his memory has already been erected in Skånevik (Norway).
