The London Marathon has announced that they want to break their participation record with 100,000 runners. 50,000 of them will be in the traditional route and another 50,000 in a virtual race. With the 50,000 runners who will participate in the official race on October 3, the participation record of 43,000 athletes will already be broken.
The participants of the virtual race will have to complete the 42 kilometers on the route of their choice between 00:00:00 and 23:59:59 on the day of the race.
“With a national vaccination program in place, we expect to see an unprecedented 100,000 participation in the London Marathon on Sunday, October 3,” said race director Hugh Brasher.
The London Virtual Marathon can be run in any city in the world and this initiative is expected to be a success, something that has already been seen in other virtual events.
