Who must register in the trades directory?
The directory of trades is a public register in which all craftsmen who exercise an independent professional activity are registered.
Good to know : in Alsace and Moselle, it is the business register.
The only constraint is to have less than 10 employees at the time of registration, excluding apprentices. Beyond 10 employees, an activity is no longer considered to be artisanal. It is registration in the trades directory that gives the entrepreneur the quality of craftsman when he declares his activity.
What activities must be registered in the trades directory?

Some examples: bakery, plumbing, carpentry, earthworks, gold panning, underwater drilling, repair of watch items, manufacture of clothing, taxidermy, printing, manufacture of ceramic objects, ambulance, hairdressing, florist, moving, sweeping , taxi, puppeteers, beauty treatments, grooming, photography, etc.
Attention : some of these activities are regulated activities which require a professional qualification. You must therefore have a corresponding diploma or justify professional experience.
What legal statuses must be registered in the directory of professions?
It is not the status but the craft activity that triggers the obligation to register in the trades directory. So all company and company statutes are concerned:

Registration in the trades directory takes the form of the award of a SIRENE number (National system of identification and directory of companies and their establishments) and an APE code (Main activity carried out). The SIRENE number is the identity of the company which proves its legal existence. It must also be mentioned on all commercial documents such as quotes and invoices.
What is the cost of registering in the trades register?
The cost of registration in the trades register depends on the chosen legal status, company or company. On average, it varies between 60 and 90 euros. Registration in the trade register is free for micro-enterprises.
An entrepreneur who embarks on a craft activity can benefit from an Installation Preparation Course (SPI). During this 30-hour internship over 4 or 5 days, the entrepreneur becomes familiar with all of the legal procedures required for the management of a business:
