Tender horn trimmers
A healthy horn has a beautiful white color (except for breeds with dark horns). “When it is dirty yellow, it is the sign of an animal which tires”, explains René Quintin, independent pedicurist. It turns out that cattle foot specialists can read the horn. For example, the veterinarian Philippe Messager describes the case of the “shy first-time mother” who cannot access the trough and spends her time at the Dac. “She quickly suffers from a nutritional imbalance that affects her feet. In trimming, we discover characteristic notches throughout the horn. “In the farms, the multiplication of certain pathologies whose origin is traumatic tells the state of the paths to the pasture, raises a problem of cubicle adjustments or puts the finger on an overcrowded building where social competition is raging. “The breeders who have never trimmed the cows often consider that the horn is tender”, entrust the providers. “It is above all delicate and fragile”, answer those whose great pleasure is to see each time a “relieved” animal come out of their cage and “go to the trough”.
