It’s the end of a long fight for the family and loved ones ofIbrahim Ali. On February 21, 1995, this young boy of 17 dies from a bullet in the back shot by a poster collector of the National Front, avenue des Aygalades, as he comes out of a rap rehearsal with friends.
For years, the family and relatives of this young Franco-Comorian, but also elected representatives of the opposition and associations, have been asking that the avenue des Aygalades be renamed. In vain, the city responding that there is already an Ibrahim Ali Abdallah roundabout in the 15th district and that a commemorative plaque has been installed at the scene of the tragedy.

In September 2018, at the initiative of the Mémoire et Réconciliation association, a plaque was unveiled at the Estaque high school where Ibrahim Ali was educated. “It was already a first step“, explains Fazia Hamiche, president of the association”but it was necessary to go further. But I was told that the avenue des Aygalades was very long“, continues Fazia Hamiche”and that for a technical and logistical problem, it was relatively difficult to change the name, this is what we invoked“.
Finally, a deliberation will be presented to the vote in the municipal council on Monday, February 8. The president of the Mémoire et Réconciliation association is delighted: “it is a real victory after all these years that there is recognition where the tragedy actually happened “.

What seemed impossible yesterday is therefore feasible today, after a change in the municipal majority. The city council on Monday February 8 must endorse this choice, 26 years almost to the day after the assassination of Ibrahim Ali. But in fact, renaming a street takes time, specifies the elected official in charge of public space: “It is necessary to create the toponymic plates and then to pose them, then La Poste will approach residents and businesses.
