Ice, snow, slush and drifting snow represent a high risk of accidents both now and in the coming night. The police point out again: Pay attention to the speed, keep your distance and only drive with winter tires
A reference to the winter tire requirement should actually be superfluous. But after a Porsche got stuck on Autobahn 2 near Hamm on Sunday night, which only had tires with winter tires on the front axle, the police once again pointed out that winter tires were required.
The Porsche driver stated that he could not afford the winter tires on both axles. Apart from the compulsory winter tires and the financial problems of the Porsche driver: An accident can not only be more expensive, it can also have dire consequences for life and limb.
Winter tires grip better than summer tires on slippery surfaces, but they are no substitute for careful driving – a vehicle can slip even with winter tires and modern assistance systems. Several cars skidded on the motorways in the Arnsberg administrative region during the night on Sunday and during the day. Two vehicles overturned.
One of them was a 60-year-old driver on the A2 between Oelde and Beckum. She lost control of her Ford around 11:30 in the direction of Oberhausen. The small car overturned and remained lying on the roof next to the road. The driver was slightly injured. Your small car had to be towed.
With the current weather conditions, absolute caution is required.
