The fierce snowfall that we now have in much of the country intensifies slightly, but then decreases from the south. It is already starting to get drier in Limburg and Zeeland, and Schambergen expects that this will have happened in the area below the The Hague / Arnhem line around 6 p.m. tonight. “Then it will still snow in the south and center, but less hard than now.”
Little difference in wind chill
The wind is also slowly getting less fierce. Now there are gusts of wind up to 75 kilometers per hour in the north and locally even up to 100 on the Wadden, tomorrow they will be a maximum of 50 kilometers per hour. But in terms of wind chill, we will hardly notice that, Schambergen thinks.
“Now we have peaks in the wind chill to -18 degrees, but tomorrow it will still be around -5 or -6 degrees, with some snow and gusts of wind up to 50 kilometers per hour. Then the wind chill is -14. really feel, I doubt. “

If we look at the rest of the week, the weather will be really different. “It will definitely remain very cold, but from Tuesday the sun will slowly come through. And Wednesday and Thursday it will be beautiful winter weather, as we know it from the ski areas: exuberant sun and less wind. That feels a lot more pleasant during the day.”
It does remain severe in the evening, however, locally possible down to -20 degrees. But that has no effect on the smoothness of the road, Schambergen expects. “With everything that is being done now by gritters and scrapers, I expect that the real nuisance will be gone after tomorrow. Although it can of course always become slippery locally.”
Lasting fun in the snow
In places where there is no spreading, the snow will remain for the time being. Some snow does disappear, because a kind of evaporation process takes place due to the low humidity, ‘sublimate’ with a chic word.
“But then there is still 15 centimeters of snow, for example, where there is now 20 centimeters.” The snow fun as can be seen in this video will therefore remain for a while.
