World best of the year: Duplantis leaps over magic mark

World record holder Armand Duplantis is again setting the standards in the pole vaulting scene.

On Saturday, the 21-year-old Swede won the meeting in Rouen, France, with the world record for the year of 6.03 m. After taking this height in the “living room” of London Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie, Duplantis failed in his attempt to set the world record of the previous year 6.18 m to improve by an inch.

Lavillenie (34) finished second with 5.93 m. The veteran had jumped 6.02 m in Tourcoing the previous week.
