Each year, the artists redouble their efforts – and resources – to wow the gallery at the Super Bowl halftime show. But others manage to make an equally good impression in just three minutes with their interpretation of the national anthem. Here are seven performances that will be forever etched in our memories.
Whitney Houston (1991)

This is the classic. The unbeatable. And, according to many, nothing less than the best rendition of the American national anthem ever heard. The late diva was there at the top of her game, successfully uniting an entire nation with this Star Spangled Banner delivered with all the verve and power we knew him.
Luther Vandross (1997)
The velvet-voiced tenor infused a healthy dose of soul – and swag – to the American national anthem when the time came to kick off the 1997 Super Bowl. Certainly one of the most remote versions of the original score, but the risk paid off for Luther Vandross.
Cher (1999)

No vocal distortion, gamic or even eccentric outfit. While she was at the top of the charts with the mega-success Believe, Cher showed what she was capable of without her usual tricks by reclaiming the American national anthem in her own way. A surprising rereading, certainly, but frankly very successful.
Mariah Carey (2002)
Exit (for the most part) its frills and powerful vocal surges so characteristic. Mariah Carey showed impressive restraint when it came time to open the game between the New England Patriots and the St. Louis Rams, only allowing herself to reach the top of her vocal register. at the end of the course.

While some opt for restraint and sobriety, Jennifer Hudson has taken the opposite approach. The singer – and Oscar-winning actress – blew our ears off with a Star Spangled Banner powerful and mind-blowing, but also very tasteful.
Lady Gaga (2016)
–
–
A year before breaking the house with her backlashing halftime show, Lady Gaga wowed the gallery with her reissue of the Star Spangled Banner. The singer has put aside her extravagances for a national anthem with nuances, highlighting her register and her unique vocal range. His little monsters had much to be proud of.
Demi Lovato (2020)
–
–
Demi Lovato’s stint on the Super Bowl stage will be remembered for a long time. His performance was powerful, sure, but it was the circumstances that made it an event in itself. Indeed, this was his second public appearance, 18 months after an overdose that could have been fatal. In short, she had come a long way. She had obviously lost none of her impressive talent.
