The number of positive cases for Covid-19, detected in Occitania is decreasing: a first since last December. In addition, there is also a slowdown in the number of new people infected and hospitalized. The region deplores 88 new deaths linked to the virus in one week.
Is the Covid-19 epidemic stopping its slow progression in the region? This is perhaps what leads us to think the last report communicated this Friday, February 5 by the Regional Health Agency. Occitania is seeing the number of new Covid-19 cases observed in one week drop: this had not been observed since December 2020. Over the last seven days, no less than 12,332 people have tested positive for virus. Between January 26 and February 2, there were 13,028 as shown in the following graph (if no graphics are visible, please deactivate your ad blocker).
This slowdown in the circulation of the virus is also observed in hospital services in the region. To date, no less than 1,863 patients have been hospitalized as a result of Covid-19 contamination in the region: this is 11 patients more than on February 2, when the previous report indicated 50 more patients in hospital services in the region.
In the intensive care units of Occitanie, there are 274 patients in intensive care this Friday: 12 more than last Tuesday.
Still high mortality
The epidemic however has serious repercussions on the mortality of the territory. No less than 258 people have died as a result of contamination with Covid-19, in Occitania, over the last week. A total of 2,770 people affected by the virus have died in the region. Mortality is highest in Héraul (570 deaths), Haute-Garonne (508 deaths) and Gard (400).
On the vaccination front, 208,170 people have received at least a first injection of the vaccine against Covid-19 in Occitanie. 22,004 patients received a second dose, just one month after the campaign was launched.
