ADAC-Studie:Münster is ahead
According to a study by the ADAC, road users in Münster and Rostock are most satisfied with mobility in medium-sized cities. As the club announced, the two cities achieved the highest overall index values in the study “Mobil in der Stadt”. Oldenburg and Freiburg follow. Krefeld and Mönchengladbach land at the bottom of the ranking. According to ADAC, traffic behavior in 29 medium-sized cities with less than 500,000 inhabitants was examined. It was about how satisfied car drivers, customers of local public transport (ÖPNV) as well as cyclists and pedestrians are with the traffic situation in the respective city.
According to the ADAC, Münster achieved first place in the sub-indices passenger cars, bicycles and pedestrians. When it came to public transport, Rostock was ahead. Münster has long been considered a “cycling stronghold” and a national pioneer. “An excellent bicycle policy is always an anti-traffic jam program,” said Mayor Markus Lewe. Rostock’s Transport Senator Holger Matthäus said that the city has invested a lot in its transport network in recent years.
The differences between the cities examined and within the types of traffic are significant, said ADAC traffic president Gerhard Hillebrand. According to the study, the biggest annoyances in car traffic are construction site management and the amount of parking fees. When it comes to public transport, the price-performance ratio is seen as the most critical. Overall, according to ADAC, walking is still one of the most frequently used options for many people in cities to reach a destination within an adequate distance. However, private car journeys achieved almost the same usage rates. Almost a third have used public transport on more than ten days within the past three months – but a good third never. More than half of road users never use a bicycle.
