The Puerto Rico Police Bureau reported on a fraud that occurred yesterday, Thursday in Carolina.
According to the preliminary report of the events, a woman identified as Lourdes Salas reported that she received a call from a man who identified himself as Benjamin Lee, an alleged Social Security employee.
The man told him his Social Security would be canceled, and that if he wanted to avoid the process he would have to send three Ebay gift cards valued at $ 200 each, for a total of $ 600. According to him, the money would later be returned to him.
The injured party carried out the procedures as agreed and sent her the card codes. After providing the codes, they hung up the call. The woman quickly called Ebay customer service, but the cards were out of balance.
Agent Sánchez, from the Carolina South precinct, conducted the preliminary investigation and referred the case to the Carolina Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC).
