At least 147 politicians and activists in Myanmar have been arrested following the latest coup, right-hand man Aung San Suu Kyi.

On Feb.5, Win Theng, a senior assistant to Aung San Suu Kyi and spokesperson for the National League for Democracy (NLD), was another arrested under the rule of the Myanmar junta.

Prior to his arrest, Win Teng made an anti-coup stance, telling the media: “The actions of the military are unwise. And the leaders are taking the country the wrong way. Everyone in the country should resist their actions as much as they can. ”

Win Theng told Reuters by phone that he was detained by police from his home in Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw. But did not specify what charges were arrested.

“We have been treated badly for a long time. I have never been afraid of them because I have done nothing wrong in my entire life, ”said Win Teng.

Foreign news agencies said he was arrested on charges of inciting schism and criticism of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Myanmar’s Association for the Aid of Political Prisoners (AAPP) said that since the coup, at least 147 politicians and activists have been arrested, including Suu Kyi, who was arrested for violating import and export laws. The illegal import of a radio in her home was detected.

The United Nations Security Council, as well as several human rights and democratic organizations, continued to express concerns over the situation in Myanmar, calling for the immediate release of those arrested.
