Ellenerbrok-Schevemoor. For one year, activists from the Ellener Hof Climate Quarter worked with participants from schools, day-care centers, facilities and institutions as well as local residents to forge an action plan for more climate protection. Now it should be implemented. The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety has welcomed the proposed measures and is supporting the implementation as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative (NKI) with a funding amount of 262,000 euros.
“We are already in the starting blocks and have prepared our plans well. We are all the more pleased to be able to really get started now with the approval of the funding ”, says Mareile Timm from BUND Bremen, who, together with the Bremer Heimstiftung, is the initiator and sponsor of the Ellener Hof Climate Quarter. The project participants have big plans. A number of offers are to be launched that will not only benefit the residents of the Ellener Hof, but also the residents of the neighborhood – for example, an exchange station that is to be set up next to the parcel and goods distribution station that has already been set up. Used but still functional items can be given away or exchanged there.
“The aim is to give second-hand things a new life,” explains Karina Korfhage, who looks after the Climate Quarter on the part of the Bremer Heimstiftung. The activists are pursuing this intention with the opening of a sewing and electrical self-help workshop. The former will start operating in the culture hall on the site. For this purpose, six sewing machines are bought, fabrics and materials are collected, and volunteer helpers are sought to help visitors or give courses. The same applies to the electrical self-help workshop. “For this we also need volunteers who know how to repair old devices and show others how to do it,” adds Mareile Timm.
In addition, a working group came together last year to implement a major project on the Ellener Hof. The group would like to create a 400 square meter community garden on the area. Organic fruit and vegetables will one day grow there. For this purpose, trees and shrubs, several raised beds, a greenhouse, tools and materials are procured. “With the latter, we prefer to use used equipment,” emphasizes Karina Korfhage. In order to store everything and also to be able to build a wood workshop, an existing building next to the garden is being converted into a multifunctional hall. It is planned to use this as a seed and plant exchange platform.
A service for homeowners is to be offered from spring in cooperation with the climate protection agency Energiekonsens. Ten owners with old oil or gas heating systems from Ellener Feld and Blockdiek can have their systems optimized for free.
