Marco Grüll from Pongau is about to take the next step in his career.
In his first half of the Bundesliga season, the 22-year-old was able to prove that Marco Grüll is one of the greatest talents in Austrian football. For Ried, the attacker scored five goals in 14 appearances and prepared two hits. Its development has of course not gone unnoticed by larger clubs. While talks with series champion Red Bull Salzburg did not lead to an agreement, Rapid Vienna, which Grüll wanted to sign in the summer, has very good cards. “One of the largest clubs in Austria and of course an attractive address for every player,” emphasizes Grüll, who should be in agreement with the Hütteldorfer.
A change this winter could fail due to Ried’s high transfer fee. According to SN information, the Innviertler are demanding around 350,000 euros. After Grüll’s contract in Ried ends in the summer and he would be available for free transfer, Rapid could be waiting with the commitment. “As long as nothing is fixed, I concentrate fully on Ried,” says the Pongauer who does not want to participate in speculation. But there are only a few days left to fix the change this winter, because the transfer window in Austria closes on Monday (midnight).
In the past few months, not only the local top clubs Rapid and Red Bull Salzburg, but also two clubs from the German Bundesliga have tried to get Grüll. Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin showed interest, but for Grüll the jump from Ried to one of the best leagues in the world would come too early. “I want to keep developing. The important thing is that I play regularly,” says the U21 team player, who never played in a youth academy, but made the leap into professional football through the regional division St. Johann.
