LONDON: Former English Premier League champions Manchester United have thrashed Southampton in a rain of goals. United won by nine goals to none at Old Trafford.
Manchester United, who have 44 points from 22 games, are in contention for the title with neighbors and former champions Manchester City. City, who have played two games less than United, also have 44 points. Defending champions Liverpool are third with 40 points from 21 games and Leicester City are fourth with 39 points. Southampton dropped to 12th place with 29 points from 21 games. In the match against Southampton, United came up with their own record in the Premier League. In 1995, they beat Ipswich Town 9-0.
