‘Asian Champion’ professional football K-League 1 Ulsan will compete in the first match of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Club World Cup. This event is also the debut stage played by Ulsan coach Hong Myung-bo as the K-League team command tower.
Ulsan will face off against Tigres UANL (Mexico), the champions of the CONCACAF Champions League, at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in Qatar Al Rayyan on the 4th at 11 pm.
In this competition, six teams including Ulsan and Tigres, Paumeiras (Brazil), Al Ahli (Egypt), Bayern Munich (Germany), and Al Duhail (Qatar) will compete for the championship. If Ulsan defeats Tigres, they will face South American champion Paumeiras in the quarterfinals at 3 am on the 8th. Losing Tigres will play 5th and 6th place against the losing team in the Al Ahli-Al Duhail match.
Ulsan was not 100% full of power last season due to the transfer of major players including scorer Junio, and injuries such as Lee Chung-yong and Lee Dong-kyung. However, goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo, central defender Kim Ki-hee, and defensive midfielder Won Doo-jae are in good shape, and veteran midfielders such as new transfers Shin Hyeong-min and Lee Ho are expected to add stability to the organization.
