New York Stocks: Nasdaq stock exchanges close to records by tech giants’ numbers

NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – Strong numbers from the tech heavyweights Alphabet and Amazon gave the US technology industry a boost on Wednesday and drove the Nasdaq stock exchanges close to their record highs. The Wall Street Index Dow Jones Industrial, meanwhile, stepped on the spot.

There was also positive news from the labor market. In the USA, for example, employment in the private sector increased again at the beginning of the year, as the employment service provider ADP announced. The decline in December has so far been a one-time setback after the severe Corona slump last spring. The ADP data is a key indicator of the official US labor market data due on Friday.

In early trading, the Dow was down 0.10 percent to 30,655.70 points. For the market-wide S&P 500 it went up 0.18 percent to 3833.11 points. The technology-heavy Nasdaq 100 gained 0.29 percent to 13,495.20 points, slightly less than the market-wide Nasdaq Composite, which gained 0.50 percent. Both are again very close to their highs reached at the end of January. / Ck / he
