It’s a first. Santander closed the first negative financial year in its history in 2020. The first Spanish bank announced Wednesday morning that it had suffered a net loss of 8.7 billion euros, due to provisions and depreciation of assets caused by the health crisis.
The president of the group, Ana Botin, said in a statement “Realistic optimism in the medium term”.
