Ministry of Industry, dedicated battery test manufacturing line establishment
[투데이에너지 송명규 기자] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Sung Yun-mo) will invest a total of 23 billion won by 2023 to support the technology development of domestic small and medium-sized companies that produce mid- to large-sized secondary battery material parts to establish the’Secondary Battery Material Parts Test and Evaluation Center’.
At the Secondary Battery Test and Evaluation Center, you can receive not only analysis of core materials and major parts for secondary batteries developed by domestic small and medium-sized companies, but also evaluation of cell performance by making them with medium and large-sized battery cells that are used in actual electric vehicles.
Provides consulting services such as evaluation result feedback and error analysis to provide collective support to improve technical completion. In addition, it will also perform functions to cultivate secondary battery specialists, such as operating a training platform using cell manufacturing lines and test and evaluation equipment.
In Korea, there is only a test and evaluation infrastructure for small-sized batteries used in mobile phones, and there is a very lack of specialized manufacturing and evaluation infrastructure for mid- to large-sized battery tests used in electric vehicles and ESS.
In order to confirm the final performance when a battery is made from newly developed materials, materials and parts companies that do not have a battery cell production line should request a performance evaluation from a battery manufacturer. Since this process takes a lot of time and cost, the difficulties faced by material parts development companies were great.
When the material parts testing and evaluation center is established through this project, it is expected that small and medium-sized companies that develop material parts will be able to shorten the performance evaluation cost and period, and will increase the opportunity to apply and test battery cells from the early stages of development. do.
In addition, battery manufacturers will be able to receive reliable evaluation results for various material parts while using the cell manufacturing line to focus on battery production, which is the original purpose.
The favorable response of local governments and industries is also high. An industry insider said, “Even if we develop new materials in multiple versions, we were disappointed that we could not test them all due to the evaluation period and cost issues. It will be a great help for the delivery of battery manufacturers as we can make and test the developed materials with real batteries. I think.”
An official from the Ministry of Industry said, “In order for secondary batteries to leap into a new flagship industry, securing the basic technology competitiveness of materials and parts is paramount.” Will”.
This project will start on the 4th by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (www.motie.go.kr) And the Korea Institute for Industrial Technology Evaluation (itech.keit.re.kr), the company plans to post a notice on the website and receive a project application by March 5, and finally select a project operator in March.
