RENAZCA, the company made up of companies that own Azca buildings, has already chosen the project from which the comprehensive transformation of the Azca area and that will mean its urban, economic and social regeneration with the project of the authors of the work of the New York High Line.
The team that presented the proposal is led by design studios Diller Scofidio+Renfro, by landscapers Gustafson Porter+Bowman and by B720 Fermín Vázquez Architects. In addition to all these professionals, the team will also have the collaboration of specialists in areas such as sustainability, lighting and urban flows.
This innovative project will convert the Azca area “in a more connected, open and accessible space” creating an urban ecosystem of great biodiversity formed by plant species, and in which, in addition, the capture of rainwater, channeled through fountains and water games, will allow to store said water in order to self-supply consumption for irrigation and sources.
In the heart of the superblock will unfold “a great green meadow” capable of hosting outdoor activities that can be attended by between 100 and 200 people.
As part of the strategy to promote biodiversity in the place, it is intended to replicate the plant typologies that already exist in the Community of Madrid. The goal is to create new urban habitats that promote the human coexistence with flora and fauna that are typical of the region.

Azca will be a reference for the public space of the city, it will become a “more welcoming, safe and full of life” area where you can enjoy leisure and cultural activities throughout the year. In this sense, the project proposes to incorporate a children’s playground, a fresh produce market, an open-air library, a sculpture garden, a greenhouse, an open-air co-working area, cafes and bars.
Finally, the underground vehicular accesses of the place have been conditioned to adapt in a more comprehensive way to the proposal reducing the visual impact of cars. Multiple stairs are eliminated with a new layout of a network of traffic routes accessible to people with disabilities as well as to emergency and security services.
