After having fun humming in his one-man-shows, Moroccan comedian Gad El Maleh officially launches “Dance on me”, his first cover album in tribute to Claude Nougaro.
A new artistic adventure for Gad El Maleh. After the stand up and the cinema, the comedian tries his hand this time at the song and seems to take things seriously. A great admirer of Claude Nougaro, the artist decides to declare his love for him by releasing a first album “Dansez sur moi” where he revisits 12 of his flagship titles with jazzy rhythms; of Toulouse at Nougayork Passing by Armstrong and Cecile my daughter. Far from the bursts of laughter that he provokes on stage, it is with a crooning voice that he revisits the repertoire of the jazz singer.
On his Instagram account, the 49-year-old comedian pays tribute to an artist he has admired since he was six when he first heard the song Armstrong on his uncle’s record player. ” Nougaro rocked my childhood, he’s the greatest French poet Gad says, saying that the idea of singing and making music came to him before the confinement, but that he was able to make it happen when he found himself locked in his home during the health crisis.
A “childhood dream” is coming true after “several years of hesitation and modesty thinking” explains Gad on his Instagram, specifying that “One of the advantages of aging is undoubtedly the happiness of being able to go towards what vibrates the most in you, what is the most intimate. And one day what was only a desire becomes a need ”.
A great lover of Jazz
Gad El Maleh who performed for the first time Armstrong on the Maison Nougaro barge 5 months ago, has never hidden his love of jazz. Whoever held his own show on TSF Jazz during confinement, in which he shared his discoveries and his favorites, considers Claude Nougaro (who died in 2004) as his absolute reference.
