Bruls wants clarity: ‘You won’t be able to get curfew from the stable in a month’s time’ | Inland

At the Security Council, the presidents of the 25 security regions – the mayors of the largest municipality in the region – met on Monday evening to discuss the measures and easing that lie ahead. “Although we really have to be careful not to call it more flexible”, said outgoing care minister Hugo de Jonge afterwards. “We know that the numbers now look good at first glance, but at second glance there is a lot of uncertainty about a third wave. The question is when and how soon he will come. But he will get there. ”

The topics discussed included vaccinations, the possible opening of shops to collect orders and curfews. Chairman Bruls, mayor of Nijmegen, was therefore particularly clear about the latter. “Normally it ends on February 10th”, Bruls explains. “And if he is not extended, that will also happen. We agree that it must be clear what happens: either you extend it, and then the arguments must weigh heavily, or you stop it, but then also definitively. You won’t be able to take it back from the stable in a month. ” At the same time, Hugo de Jonge indicated that it is actually still too early to see whether the curfew is effective. That is why the outgoing minister did not want to discuss the options for abolition or extension.

The Security Council has also advised the cabinet to take another look at the possible reopening of non-essential stores for the collection of items. “We are not in favor of a measure that gives an unclear picture in shopping streets. In addition, such a thing is difficult to explain to other branches. We always have to see whether something is feasible, which is why we advised the cabinet to take another look at it. ”
