Two western duels with clearly assigned roles are on the program today in the first half of the round of 16 in the DFB Cup. At 6.30 p.m., traditional club Rot-Weiss Essen welcomes last year’s finalists Bayer Leverkusen as the last fourth division team in the round of 16. In the previous rounds, the Essen first division Arminia Bielefeld and second division Fortuna Düsseldorf had eliminated.
From 8.45 p.m. Borussia Dortmund welcomes the second division club SC Paderborn. After defending champion Bayern Munich, Leverkusen and Dortmund are favorites in the competition. With eight clubs, North Rhine-Westphalia provides half of the 16 clubs that are still in the competition. The other four will all play away on Wednesday: Schalke have to play in Wolfsburg, Bochum in Leipzig, Cologne in Regensburg and Mönchengladbach in Stuttgart.
