DeAngelo, 25, in his fifth NHL season, was on the ice for four Penguins goals. He was also benched by head coach David Quinn earlier this season with a bad misconduct penalty in the third period, after complaining aloud to the umpires about a crash penalty.

The Rangers (2-4-2) are struggling defensively after eight games this season, and they are last in the Eastern section. And DeAngelo, who initialed a two-year, US $ 9.6million contract in the offseason, could be close to quitting.

DeAngelo has been a mainstay of the power play offense for the past several years, first with the Arizona Coyotes for one season and then for the next three with the Rangers. He has a minus-6 differential so far this season.

Quinn, however, remained evasive when asked about the reasons for this decision.

“It’s a simple decision of the organization, and we’ll see what happens,” he told reporters. I understand your questions, I understand you want details, but like I said, it’s an organization decision, and in about 24 hours we’ll be able to get into more specific details. ”
