The extraordinary affair shook the Parisian police. Six officials from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) of the 18th arrondissement of Paris are on trial from Wednesday. Suspected, to varying degrees, of having racketed dealers, falsified reports, willful violence … They appear alongside two “informants”.
The main defendant Karim M., in pre-trial detention in June 2019, is a 47-year-old brigadier. Recognized within the police station for “Great deals”, he was well noted by his hierarchy. Nicknamed “Bylka” (Kabyle in verlan) in the Goutte-d’Or district, he was referred to the criminal court for corruption, drug trafficking, money laundering, forgery in public writing, etc.
“Envelopes” to monetize your protection
It all started with a report from a former colleague in 2018. The latter explains to the IGPN, the police, that Karim M. is taking “Envelopes” to dealers to monetize its protection. He even accuses him of being involved in trafficking: “Bylka gets along with them to challenge the competition”.
The defendant would have received tens of thousands of euros between 2014 and 2019. Investigations showed that he had nine laptops, never paid by card, did not withdraw any cash for four years and that he was a de facto manager a hotel and a bar. He also traveled regularly to Algeria where he would own real estate.
“He disputes any act of corruption”
The “Formally contests any act of corruption or of complicity in drug trafficking”, underlines his lawyer, Me Patrick Maisonneuve. In front of the investigators, Karim M. denounced “Rumors of corruption launched by drug traffickers to harm him” and claims to have been abused by his “Informants”.
On the basis of eavesdropping made with microphones placed in the cars of the “baqueux” during the investigation opened in 2018, other of his colleagues, suspended from their functions, are suspected of various offenses: forgery, transport of narcotics or violence in particular.
The trial is to be held until February 12.
