Sonic the Hedgehog, the blue hedgehog best known for starring in a series of video games, is getting his own Netflix series, reports Variety Monday.
The title of the project is Sonic Prime. The series has 24 episodes and will premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2022. It is aimed at children between the ages of six and eleven, and “Sonic fans of all ages”.
“Sonic is a beloved character and holds a special place in everyone’s heart, including mine,” Dominique Bazay, the series’ director, said in a statement.
“I spent many hours with the ‘Blue Blur’ (nickname of Sonic the Hedgehog, ed.) As a kid and it is a privilege to be able to take this character that everyone knows and loves together with Netflix on a brand new adventure. It will be an adventure that loyal fans and brand new fans all over the world will enjoy. ”
Sonic the Hedgehog first appeared in the eponymous game for the Sega Mega Drive in 1991. Sega’s blue logo was the inspiration for Sonic’s coat color, and the animation figure became the game console manufacturer’s mascot. There have been more than 1.14 billion games in the US since 1991 Sonic the Hedgehogseries.
At the beginning of 2020 a feature film with the hedgehog and Jim Carrey in the lead role was released.
