Reconstruction project for Bondo GR after rockslide at Urne approved

A related partial revision of the local planning was approved more clearly, with 467 against 164 votes, as the municipality announced. The turnout was 54 percent.

The vote was about the reconstruction project in Bondo after the great landslide on August 23, 2017 on Piz Cengalo. Eight people died then. The subsequent debris flow was so large that the protective measures built in 2014 were not sufficient.

Parts of the settlements, roads and bridges were torn away or flooded. Around three million cubic meters of rock had fallen into the valley at that time. The protective measures built immediately afterwards were largely of a provisional nature.

Financing through donations

The aim of the reconstruction project is to guarantee protection from floods and debris flows for the settlement areas of Bondo, Sottoponte, Spino and Promontogno as well as for various roads. According to the municipality, the structures should be carefully integrated into the landscape.

The total cost of the project is 42 million francs. After deducting the subsidies from the federal government and the canton of Graubünden, the costs for the municipality of Bregaglia are between CHF 11.9 and 13.3 million. The community can finance the majority of this through donations.
