It is said that female characters rarely act in bad faith, and when they are, it is always for a good reason.
Fanie Demeule and Krystel Bertrand believe that a woman can be hopelessly greedy, perverse, and most importantly, unrepentant. That she can show pure physical, psychological and moral wickedness.
Ten short story writers
Demeule and Bertrand brought together ten short stories, seven women and three men, to offer us the collection Cruel. The voices are varied, the visions remain unsettling and uncontrollable, the lyrics haunt us. They leave no room for indifference.
For Fanie Demeule, “women are also sometimes amoral, dangerous, enraged, unreliable, unpredictable and threatening”.
Krystel Bertrand goes on to add: “With Cruel, we want to make people understand, once and for all, that Evil, sadism and cruelty are not just guy stuff.»
