Russia Cup: Ivanov is back with victory / Eisspeedway

The Ice Speedway Russia Cup was continued in Shadrinsk after the start in Novosibirsk. While Daniil Ivanov reported back with a win, the top 3 of the first two races were missing.

Igor Kononov, Dmitry Khomitsevich and Dinar Valeev were not only the top three drivers in the Russian Championship this year, but also took the top positions in the Russian Cup after the first two of six races. Usually the top 3 of the Russian Championship do not start in the Russia Cup because they are competing in the qualifying races for the World Championship – these will be canceled in 2021. It is unclear why the trio was there in Novosibirsk and not in Shadrinsk.

Daniil Ivanov, who is set as champion for the world championship, was there and was able to present himself in increasing form. The 34-year-old trailed his form in the races for the Russian Championship and in the first events of the Russia Cup, in Shadrinsk he was able to win all races. After his victory in Shadrinsk, Ivanov now leads the overall standings at halftime of the competition together with Nikita Bogdanov, who was only defeated by Ivanov.

A jump-off had to decide for third place in Shadrinsk, which Ivan Chichkov won. The fourth race of the Russia Cup will take place again in Shadrinsk on January 31st.
