if you come to Corsica from next Saturday, you will need to have taken a test

From next Saturday, travelers coming from the mainland will have to show off when arriving on the island. All will have to present a certificate on their arrival proving that they have carried out an anti-COVID19 test. This must have been completed 72 hours before the trip to Corsica, and may be requested in the ports and airports of the island.

“40,000 to 50,000 people per week are expected over the next 3 weeks”, explained the Prefect of Corsica on Saturday. Pascal Lelarge announced that “random police checks” will be carried out in ports and airports. Offenders will be liable to a fine of € 135, or even more, if they cause a health problem, such as a cluster.

You will be able to do this test in a laboratory or at the pharmacist; today there is a wide availability of these tests, which makes this measure easy to consider. – Pascal Lelarge, Prefect of Corsica

“Do not put our 70,000 elderly people at risk”

In addition to presenting this medical certificate of a test indeed carried out before arrival in Corsica, travelers must, in addition, present the certificate on their honor stating that they have not been contaminated, that they have not been in contact with an infected person or they have no symptoms. “It is always compulsory”, wanted to remind the prefect, for all intents and purposes.

A measure taken jointly with the Regional Health Agency. The stated goal is toavoid increasing the incidence rate of the virus in Corsica. This is 32 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, over the first week of December, against 183 in Nice, or 123 in Aix-Marseille, for example.

“There are metropolises that have rates even higher than Corsica, explains Marie-Hélène Lecenne, director of the ARS of Corsica. And who says “end of year celebrations” says “family reunification”. It is therefore taking a risk to expose our 70,000 elderly people and our 40,000 people to long-term infection, by the fact that there would be positives around the table. This would expose us, fifteen days later, to strongly solicit health services “.

People who test positive are of course asked to stay at home. Those whose test is negative or awaiting a result must present this certificate, which will not be required on boarding. Both RT-PCR tests as well as antigens are accepted. The latter will also be feasible in the five airports serving Corsica, announced the company Air Corsica in the evening.

“Finally the Greenpass!” : reaction of the president of the Corsica transport office

An announcement that did not fail to react on the political level, starting with the nationalist executive. On Facebook, the director of the Corsican Transport Office Vanina Borromei reacted, writing in capital the word “FINALLY !!!” followed by the hash word #GREENPASS. Indeed, this test measure to be presented from the mainland to Corsica is not without recalling the measure requested by Gilles Simeoni, President of the Territorial Executive, last June.

“We are looking for the controversy”, Pascal Lelarge, prefect of Corsica, questioned himself on this subject in a press conference. “It’s ancient history“, he also asserted. “The difference with this summer is the difference in the circulation of the virus between Corsica and the continent that we have today. In addition, in this current period, the exposure of the most fragile people is greater”, insists Marie-Hélène Lecenne on this subject.

Finally, note that it will not be compulsory to present a negative test result if you are checked, and that the certificate of completion of the sample will not be required if you are traveling in the Corsica-Continent direction.
