‘From Miss to more without going through Albacete’ is the peculiar title that Beatriz Rico has chosen for her first literary adventure.

The artist has visited our city many times, and confesses that “she loves to perform at the Teatro Circo”, and that, moreover, “you eat very well.” But there are more reasons why, the popular actress, has placed Albacete as the protagonist of her first novel.

Tired of seeing that the Miss Spain contest “is always won by the representatives of some tourist site, such as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Malaga or Alicante, among others, I wanted to break a spear in favor of all those indoor mises that have never managed to get to Miss Spain ”, she claims.

Another reason is because, a few years ago, he started in the world of humor and he did it at the hands of Víctor Ladrón de Guevara, a manager of actors and comedians, who also appears in the novel as a real character. The artist remembers that she was the first person who gave her the opportunity to try the monologues, where she is very comfortable and happy, and she wanted to “thank her in some way”.

The third reason comes from many years ago, when Albacete Balompié, at the time when it achieved its greatest successes, being baptized as ‘The mechanical cheese’, invited a very young Beatriz Rico in its early days of popularity to be godmother of the team and take the honor kick in an important match. “It was a detail that I will never forget,” he recalls. Then he thought that everything led him to the same, to the point that there is even a chapter of the novel dedicated to Albacete.

In the novel we will discover the life of Rita, who after achieving the title of Miss Albacete manages to break all the statistics and become Miss Spain. As a winner, she enjoys her luck like never before and takes advantage of the pull and fame that the contest gives her. After the year of reign he manages to live on advertising campaigns and various jobs, although not with the financial stability he wants. From that moment on, Rita will live one and a thousand adventures both professionally and emotionally. You will run into important problems such as addictions or inevitable ones such as death, but you will also experience very funny moments in the love field and especially in the professional field. “I wanted to make a humorous book where people laughed a lot. I think it’s the normal progression when you come from writing monologues and people laugh with you when you go on stage. The feeling is so happy and I feel so useful and so good that, without knowing that my first novel was going to be, I already sensed that there was going to be a lot of humor ”, he emphasizes.

Although the novel is peppered with the actress’s characteristic humor, there is also a message. “I am fortunate that today you are giving me a voice, that I have written a book that people will read, of getting on a stage where there is an audience that will listen to me, for that reason, I feel I have a moral duty to Send a message. I believe that if art is not compromised it loses part of its meaning, and I want to take advantage of it now that I have a golden opportunity ”, he declares.

When we ask its author, if throughout the 22 chapters that make up the novel we will find small autobiographical touches, she replies between mischievous laughter, that everything that happened in this novel is fiction, but that any resemblance to reality “as better is that it is true. They always say that an author’s first novel is usually autobiographical. This is not, but when you start with your first job you have many experiences, many memories inside, good and bad, that it is logical that they come out. I guess when you have a lot of novels the tap starts to dry out a little bit. So yes, there are many things of mine, but I don’t say which ones because I am ashamed and because I like that the reader plays to guess: will it be or will it not be? ”, He explains.

The novel has been edited by ‘Ediciones Martínez Roca’, a publishing house that belongs to Grupo Planeta. “I told my representative that as soon as the book was finished I could move it through publishers to see if someone wanted to get it out. Suddenly one day he told me that an editorial had written to him because he liked the posts he wrote on my Instagram account a lot, emphasizing that they could fit perfectly with an editorial line they had, very focused on that touch of humor. At the time I was finishing the book, so I decided to take it out with them. Everything was predestined, and I followed the signs ”.

From Instagram to your first novel

She is very active on her Instagram account, which she uses to share her experiences with her followers. And it is that, as the author herself affirms “a photo is always a good excuse to publish a long humorous text”. One day he did not write his usual post, and many people began to write him asking him to do it because they were waiting for him. It was then that he realized that “he had to write because there were already too many signals.”

The versatile artist likes to write a lot, but confesses that “I’m a bit lazy, although when I get on, no one can stop me.” Her husband had been encouraging her to do so for two years. Every time she got up and went to breakfast she was at the table in the living room with a notebook and a pen that he had left her, and, as she herself indicates, she always writes by hand because “with the computer I go slower, I’m from the pen generation ”.

But confinement came and he fell into a kind of depression and a very sad mood. He spent two weeks in bed, in which “I did not want to get up,” he acknowledges. Until one day he finally did it and saw the pen and the notebook out of the corner of his eye and it was a revelation. “I sat down and started writing like crazy and couldn’t stop. I immediately realized that I had a story and the poison in my body, ”says the writer.

From that moment, he became obsessed with the plot and the characters, something that helped him to cope well with confinement. “The moment I sat down to write was laughter and happiness. The magic was the contrast from the mood I came from, which I suddenly passed into. You can say that writing the book saved me. If, in addition, readers’ spirits rise a quarter of a half of what was uploaded to me writing it, I can say that I have already succeeded ”, he concludes. A triumph that will once again link Beatriz Rico with our city.
