Cotentin is doing better
Center-Manche is also seeing an increase in the epidemic, but with lower figures: 229.7 in Saint-Lô Agglo, 217 for West Coast Center-Manche (La Haye / Lessay), 232 for the Bay of Cotentin ( Carentan / Sainte-Mère-Église). The territories that are doing the best are those of the urban community of Cotentin (Cherbourg / Valognes), with an incidence rate of 120.6, and of the community of communes of Coutances Mer and Bocage, with a rate of 139.
At the level of the department, the incidence rate is 233.97 (288.5 among those over 65), while it is 181.47 in the region.
“La Manche is the Normandy department where we have a rapid progression of the virus”
Here, 176 people were hospitalized in La Manche, including 12 in intensive care. All the hospitals in the department have launched the White Plan to cope with an influx of patients. A first patient was also transferred this week from Cherbourg to Saint-Lô.
The English variant very present
Why such an acceleration of the pandemic in the Channel, when the department had so far been relatively preserved? No real explanation, except perhaps a low rate of immunity in the population.
And the English variant of the coronavirus, more contagious, is present in Manchese territory: out of 10 cases identified in Normandy, 3 are in the Channel, but “these are isolated cases”, specifies the prefect.
“A relaxation of barrier gestures”
His entry into the territory “is not due to the presence of English in the South Channel, it is linked to a relaxation of barrier gestures, in particular when sharing meals,” said the prefect. In addition, exchanges with Ireland from Cherbourg are closely monitored: “Truck drivers must present a negative antigen test of less than 72 hours”.
To curb an epidemic dynamic, the prefecture and the ARS Normandy have opened massive screening centers in Avranches, Granville and Saint-Lô. These screening centers are set up with the municipalities.
“They help reassure the population and allow infected people to go into isolation to break the chain of transmission of the coronavirus. All responsible! “
After two days of operation, these centers close today at 4.30 pm This operation will find an extension in the Manchese territory. “Next week, we will multiply the screenings,” announces the prefect.
