Kassel Huskies deserved to win against the Wolves Freiburg

Reading time: approx. 2 minutes

The DEL2 top game of the first in the table against the fifth in the table promised one thing above all: many goals. After all, the huskies scored the most goals and the wolves the third most goals in the league. And the TV viewers were not disappointed: The Huskies, who missed top scorer Corey Trivino due to injury, deservedly won 5: 1 (2: 1.3: 0.0: 0) against decimated Breisgauer thanks to a strong second third.

The first third offered a game on a high technical and running level with great offensive actions on both sides. The wolves from Breisgau coped well with the long bus journey and were there from the start. Wolf Peter Spornberger had the first chance of the game, but his low shot, which resulted from a bad pass by Dinger, missed the goal. Kassel got his first chance through Phil Cornet (2nd min), but his deflected shot was safe prey for young Enrico Salvarani, who was preferred to veteran Meissner.

That the wolves know where the goal is, they showed in the first power play – Jordan George’s shot from the right half-field at Kuhn’s schooner had to bounce off the Kassel goalie, the margin left in front of the goal used Linsenmaier to 0: 1. The huskies now picked up a little more speed. Chances through Shevyrin and Dinger’s blocked Schlenzer did not lead to success. The urge phase of the home side was then rewarded: a good one and a half minutes after the Wolves led, it was Troy Rutkowski who, after a good pass from Dinger, decelerated centrally and was able to shoot in to make it 1-1. In the further course, the spectators saw a fast game of both teams with chances on both sides. But only the huskies came on the scoreboard: the long-running Marco Müller was served by Phil Cornet and was able to score the 2-1 lead with his first goal of the season with a slap shot from full speed from the blue line. With this score, both teams went into the first third break.

The second third was offensive hockey in a class of its own – especially on the side of the huskies: Lois Spitzner hit the post when he was outnumbered after a strong break, Salvarani was able to parry Cameron’s tunnel attempt on his own, Marco Müller with a shot from the post when he hit Lukas Laub on two zero was served. The 2-1 intermediate result was more than flattering for the wolves. But in the 27th minute, Salvarani was also powerless: Troy Rutkowski again with the eye, Ryan Olsen was able to significantly deflect his flick from the blue line – 3: 1. The North Hesse offensive express was now in motion: After Rutkowski’s shot in the power play from the blue line, Phil Cornet was able to use the margin to make it 4-1 (29th min), exactly when the Freiburg team were complete again. Probably the most beautiful goal of the evening followed less than two minutes later: Clarke Breitkreuz drove with a lot of momentum into the third of the Wolves, played the Freiburg defender worth seeing and completed the 5-1 into the far corner. As a result of this urge phase of the huskies, the guests were completely out of their role, the game became more toxic – the Hessians created opportunities, but Salvarani was able to prevent further goals by the sled dogs with good saves.

The third third played the huskies in the style of a top team. Despite the clear lead, they continued to play hungry and came up with good opportunities. As the game continued, the hosts slowed down a bit with a view to the upcoming games, Freiburg came up with chances that were not necessarily enough to score another goal. Because there were no more teams on the scoreboard, the game ended 5-1 for the sled dogs, who expanded their top position as Ravensburg lost 4-2 at home to Bad Nauheim. For Kassel it goes to the Hessenderby in Frankfurt on Sunday, the Lions lost their Friday game in Landshut 3-1.
