Remembering where you stayed after the episodes unfolded one after the other can be difficult. So Netflix is testing right now a stopwatch function in the application. It is similar to the one found on TVs through which we can program its closing after a certain time. The function is being distributed right now through a new update of the Android application. Users can set a shutdown time of 15, 30 or 45 minutes or select the “end episode” option.
The feature will be extremely useful if the auto-play option is enabled. At the same time, the terminal battery or mobile data will no longer be consumed unnecessarily. I don’t know if it will be so useful on TVs, as they already have an integrated timer. However, Netflix says it will arrive in a future update if the option proves useful. Until then, here’s how it works on Android:
- Choose and start your favorite series;
- In the upper right corner you will find the icon of a clock, representing the Stopwatch / Timer;
- You will be able to choose between the options 15, 30, 45 minutes or “Finish the episode”
In a statement for Trusted Reviews, a Netflix spokesperson wanted to point out that this feature is more than a sleep timer. For example, the option can be used as a parental control or it can be useful if you want to track something within a set time limit. Also, if you’re used to watching Netflix while running on the treadmill. This way, you will know more precisely the time spent watching Netflix.
The Netflix representative said:
“We’re always looking for new ways to enhance the Netflix mobile experience. This test is the latest example – a new timer that gives members more control over their viewing experience by simply choosing their favorite show or movie and setting a timer without having to worry about interrupting it before it to be done. We are experimenting and will launch this feature on a large scale only if we find that it improves the user experience. ”
