Professor Martijn Katan thinks this is “nonsense”. “I will not say that it contains ground Christmas trees, but it is not much better,” says the professor. “Look, if you didn’t get vitamin C, you would get sick. But you don’t have to get that from jars. Everyone gets that with what you normally eat. Even potato, so even fries, contains vitamin C. You don’t easily have a shortage. ”
Inspection Service of Value
If the Inspection Service starts asking around at various producers, they do not want to speak to them about the effect of the supplements. They also discover something striking about some of the jars: on the front it is claimed that the pills support the resistance, but on the back it is stated that the investigation into the claim is still ongoing.
“Vitamin C, for example, is European approved. But research is more complicated with other herbs, so the science authority is still looking at how they can best do that, ”explains the trade association. “Until then, the claims may be used, but consumers must be aware that they are still being looked at.” Katan calls this, again, “nonsense”. “Those claims are waiting in Brussels until St. Juttemis.”

Research shows: tackling obesity also helps the immune system
What can we at least do to improve resistance? “What your immune system loves is a constant tap. And you get that hit by changing diet, exercising or sitting out in the cold, for example. These taps make it increasingly powerful, ”says professor of immunology Huub Savelkoul.
