Technical studies on the route of the future tramway in Brest will start on Monday – Brest

Voted in the metropolitan council on December 15, the project for a second tram line, 5.3 km long and running between the station and the CHRU in La Cavale Blanche, and a high-level service bus (BHNS) to Lambé, is entering a phase of studies and technical diagnostics on its route: geotechnical surveys will be carried out from this Monday, and for a period of one month. Concretely, it involves coring over the entire route (the basic routes and their variants under study) of the future line B of the tramway and the BRT, as well as the right of the foundations of the works of art to strengthen or build.

These cores will be carried out every 300 to 500 meters approximately, in order to specify the nature of the land, and to allow the working hypotheses to be refined. “These cores audible by local residents will be carried out on the side aisles, occasionally on the roadway and marked with markings. On the roadway, the reduction of one lane to the right of the survey will be necessary and will allow motorists to double it via the left lane ”, specifies Brest Métropole Aménagement, appointed delegated contracting authority for the project.

Load tests on the Clémenceau bridge

In parallel, an ecological diagnosis of the perimeter of the project has just started, and will continue for a year to cover a biological cycle. Bibliographic studies will be carried out in conjunction with environmental associations and will be supplemented by monthly site visits. This diagnosis will guide future project design choices and feed into the future environmental assessment file.

Finally, surveyor surveys will be carried out and investigations and verifications will continue on the existing structures, making it possible to size the reinforcements necessary to accommodate the passage of the tram over the Villeneuve bridge and the Clémenceau bridge (passage Jean- Monnet). On Clémenceau, load tests to measure the movements of the bridge are on the program: this operation will require cutting the bridge and the traffic and will be carried out at night to minimize this impact.
