The district office of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald announced on Friday that 38 of 42 samples with mutated viruses from the area of ​​responsibility of the authority – more than just those from the daycare center – had been typed. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) said on Thursday evening that it was the variant first discovered in South Africa. A government spokesman said on Friday when asked which mutant it was had not yet been conclusively clarified.

A mutated variant of the corona virus was detected in 18 children and educators from the Freiburg daycare center. In addition, there were nine close contacts on Thursday, according to the district office. After this outbreak became known, the state government stopped its plans to open daycare centers and primary schools early and finally decided against it.
