The change in level will take effect from this Saturday after its publication in the Official Butlletí de les Illes Balears (BOIB) and will mean the closure of the hotel business as already happens in Ibiza and Mallorca. In Menorca, the terraces of bars and restaurants remain open.
The new level will imply, among other issues, the suspension of activity inside and outside bars, cafes and restaurants, which will only be able to sell take-out food until 10pm or deliver to home until midnight.
Likewise, family and social gatherings are limited to people from the same nucleus of coexistence, both in public and private spaces, and both indoors and outdoors.
For their part, businesses must close at 8:00 p.m. and reduce their capacity to 30 percent, except gas stations and stores dedicated to essential commerce, as well as pharmacies, hairdressing and beauty services, among others.
On the other hand, cultural activities with the presence of the public are prohibited, except theaters or cinemas where the capacity is reduced to 30 percent. Public attendance at sporting events of any category is also prohibited. Gyms will also need to close.
Regarding public transport, the capacity of intercity buses will be limited and only seats with seats will be able to be occupied.
The agreement also includes the recommendation to be at home at 8:00 p.m. or visit the shops individually or in groups of two people from the same nucleus of coexistence.
ACCUMULATED INCIDENCE TRIGGERED
The decision is motivated by epidemiological indicators, after the accumulated incidence of 14 days on the island has skyrocketed in recent weeks.
On January 24, it reached a maximum of 1,048 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the average percentage of positivity for the previous seven days was practically 22 percent.
These figures are well above the threshold of 60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the 3 percent positivity that the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control establishes to define a territory at risk.
