Hulondalo.id – WhatsApp again strengthens security for its users. Especially for WhatsApp Desktop users or WhatsApp Web, is now obliged to perform a face or fingerprint scanner as biometric authentication.

This was announced by WhatsApp on Thursday (28/1/2021). Through a press release received Hulondalo.id, WhatsApp said that biometric authentication is part of an effort to add a layer of security when a user wants to sync accounts from cellphones to computers.

“We take advantage of a cellphone operating system that supports facial or fingerprint authentication features. When users want to synchronize their accounts with WhatsApp Desktop or WhatsApp Web, they will be asked to perform biometric authentication on their cellphones before being asked to scan a QR code, “said the WhatsApp message.

Face and fingerprint authentication performed on the user’s device is automatically protected by a privacy security system.

Thus, WhatsApp claims that it will not be able to access biometric information stored on the user’s cellphone operating system.

“This additional layer of security will minimize the possibility of other people syncing accounts to other devices without the owner’s knowledge,” WhatsApp said.

This new security feature will only work on phones that support biometric authentication, such as iOS 14 and above for iPhone and a number of compatible Android devices.

This WhatsApp feature update will be available in the coming weeks.(Man)
