The former police officer charged with the crime of attempted murder of a 16-year-old in Puente Pío Nono, Sebastián Zamora, appointed a new lawyer to prepare his defense. This is the well-known former prosecutor Alejandro Peña, former Metropolitan South prosecutor of the Public Ministry between 2003 and 2011, a position in which he led the so-called Bomb Case.
In this way, Peña will work with Vinko Fodich, Antonio Villalobos and Luis Urrutia Letelier with the former policeman, who is in preventive detention.
Peña, in 2011, left the investigation of the Bomb Case to take over as head of the Security Division in the Ministry of the Interior, led at that time by Rodrigo Hinzpeter. He resigned after one year, after assuming responsibility for the so-called Overpricing Case. Later, he was accused of committing various administrative offenses in the framework of the Bombs Case, being indicted along with the other persecutors who worked in the investigation.
Zamora is formalized by the event that occurred on October 2, 2020, in the midst of demonstrations near Plaza Baquedano. In the instance, the former carabinero pushed the young man to the bank of the Mapocho River. A video captured with his personal camera shows how Zamora talks to his peers and is evident when they tell him “you tried to catch it and it fell, right?”, Or that the minor “threw himself” while trying catch him after being seen “throwing stones.”
Zamora was discharged from the Carabineros for carrying a personal camera in the police operation and not informing the institution about this.
