Despite the emergence of several competing platforms and the growing dissatisfaction of some of its users, Facebook still largely dominates the Western instant messaging market. Last year, the vast majority of French messaging app users reported regularly communicating with Messenger (79%) and / or WhatsApp (61%), as the latest data from the Global Consumer Survey reveal. In third position, Snapchat is ahead of Skype, with 36% of regular users against 17% for Microsoft’s service. The alternatives that have recently been on the rise in this market, Telegram and Signal, together only accumulated 7% of regular users in France in 2020.
