A trial for attempted murder has been ongoing at the Regensburg Regional Court since January 14th.
The accused is a 25-year-old from Regensburg who is said to have tried to kill her father in the shared apartment in Regensburg with a kitchen knife – so the indictment. Various witnesses testified on Wednesday, and a forensic doctor gave his expert opinion.
The main content of the testimony on Wednesday was the various injuries suffered by the injured party, the mother of the defendants and the defendants themselves. After reading the surgery report of the treating assistant doctor at Regensburg University Hospital – this is needed in the fight against Covid and was therefore excused – said the first Witness a doctor who reported that she had never seen or treated the injured party herself. Another witness, a ward doctor, examined the injured party on the day after and on the day after the alleged crime and as part of a control. He reported a “dirty” cut about six centimeters long and about two centimeters deep in the injured person and of two hematomas.
Another witness was the family doctor. He stated that he had known the defendant since she was three years old and that she never visited his practice continuously. On May 26, 2020, two days after the incident, the injured party came to him because of other complaints and the family doctor briefly saw the wound, but did not discuss it with the injured party.
An official from KPI Regensburg then testified in court. He took over the questioning of the defendants’ parents in the hospital. However, since these two invoked their right to refuse to testify, the witness merely stated that neither the mother nor the father of the accused had been drunk at the time of the questioning. The mother had already been released while the father was on the ward.
A neighbor of the family also testified in court that she had been asked by the mother of the accused on May 24, 2020 to call 911, which she did. When asked, she also stated that she had seen blood at the entrance to the stairs and in the apartment. The witness also confirmed that the alleged murder weapon – a kitchen knife – looked like the evidence that the judge showed her. Before the incident, she learned from the mother of the accused that the accused had repeatedly suffered “freaks out” and “outbursts of anger” and that the mother suspected her daughter was using drugs.
Most recently, the expert report by a forensic doctor took place on Wednesday morning. He specified that, according to the photos, the cut was four centimeters long and two to three centimeters deep and very high – almost no longer in the neck area. The injured party also “lost a lot of blood”, but his consciousness was unimpaired, only the heart rate was increased – probably due to the excitement. The condition of the injured party did not deteriorate any further and the pain was probably bearable, according to the expert. The mother suffered superficial injuries on two fingers, the defendant a “deep, heavily bleeding cut on the index finger”. Long-term consequences are not to be expected with the mother or the defendant. The witness confirmed that the alleged knife was capable of causing injuries of the type mentioned.
The trial will continue on Tuesday, February 2nd.
