The Rostock University Hospital is postponing less urgent operations in order to secure capacity for emergencies. The reason is corona infections on several wards.
Covid-19 outbreaks have been reported on several stations at the Rostock University Medical Center. As the Medical Board of the University of Medicine, Christian Schmidt, said on Wednesday, a total of 25 patients and 14 employees are affected. In university medicine, patients infected with the coronavirus who originally came to the clinic for other illnesses are increasingly being treated.

No highly contagious virus variants
The affected patients were moved to two specialized wards and the employees were sent to quarantine at home. According to Schmidt, there are no cases with the highly contagious mutated Corona variants according to previous findings. As a consequence, all interventions in patients for whom this is medically justifiable would be postponed, explained the medical board. In outpatient departments and day clinics, the number of patients is also reduced to an acceptable minimum. Overall, the aim is to ensure the care of emergency patients and treatments that cannot be postponed.
