This saw replacement is really exciting even without blood fountains

The success of Saw sparked a wave of films about deadly horror games. While fans eagerly await the next reboot of Jigsaw’s perfidious torture horror, Escape Room, which you can now stream on Netflix, proves to be a worthy replacement – and without any blood or guts.

With games, fun and excitement, the Escape Room puzzle trip is the surprise egg among horror films. Because although the horror film lacks brutality and violence, it is no less nerve-wracking and exciting.

Horror on Netflix: This is what Escape Room is all about

In the opening sequence, Escape Room doesn’t take any prisoners. A young man falls through the ceiling of a rustic library room. The walls begin to move towards each other ceaselessly. In a few minutes his body becomes one with furniture and decor. To escape his squishy fate, he has to have one solve riddles.

The player, still unknown to us, is one of six strangers who are invited exklusiven Escape Room to visit the company Minos. If they can solve the puzzles, they will win a hefty prize money. However, there is a catch: if you don’t make progress, you pay with your life.

Almost like a series, Escape Room works on the episodic six different puzzle rooms that the characters have to face. In these, fire, ice, gas and even gravity become life threatening for the players.

The individual escape rooms are a real eye-catcher. Whether it’s an upside-down bar, a ski lodge or a gloomy horror hospital: all six games in the film are unique and different – even if the film threatens to drift into the sci-fi genre with some puzzles.

The complex puzzle rooms, the cracking soundtrack, the claustrophobic terror and, last but not least, the shocking twists make Escape Room like a Saw 2.0 Act.

But while the previous 8-part Saw series is often only about slaughtering characters in the most spectacular death traps possible, Escape Room beats a contrary direction a.

This is not about exhibited excesses of violence. There’s no gore to be seen when characters lose their lives. Instead, we want to see how the exclusively sympathetic characters find a solution or a Find a way out without dying. That makes Escape Room really exciting.

Escape Room takes many successful ingredients from well-known films like Cube, Saw or Hostel and gives the torture horror a refreshing (and youth-free) twist. horror doesn’t need bloody slaughterto get your pulse racing and have fun. Escape Room proves this perfectly.

You can Escape Room now with a subscription to Netflix stream. The sequel is already in the works – but it is still a while in coming. Escape Room 2 is due to open in theaters in January 2022 after some postponements.
