Mumbai: With the India – England Test series set to begin in the first week of February, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has posed an interesting challenge to Cheteshwar Pujara, the ‘new wall’ of Indian cricket. Pujara, who is notable for his defensive batting style, has challenged Ashwin to a half-mustache if he hits a six outside the crease against any English spinner in the Test series against England. The first Test will be played in Chennai from February 5.
Ashwin’s ‘open challenge’ to Pujara during a conversation with Indian batting coach Vikram Rathore on his YouTube channel. During the conversation with Rathore, ‘Can Pujara ever be seen scoring a six against an off-spinner?’ Ashwin asks. Rathore’s response was:
‘Attempts to do so continue. I ‘ve been trying to convince Pujara for a while to try Sixer at least once. He is still not fully convinced. Pujara tells me great reasons not to try sixes’ – Rathore explained. In response, Ashwin challenged Pujara:
‘In the Test series against England, if Pujara leaves the crease and hits a six against Moin Ali or any other spinner, I will play with a half mustache. This is an open challenge, ”said Ashwin.
‘This challenge is great. Pujara may want to take it over. But he’s unlikely to do that ‘- Rathore’s response.
