“IPhones and accessories Magsafe anything must be at least six inches (about 15 centimeters) from the medical device or twice the distance if the device is wirelessly charged, “said Apple, as quoted by GSM Arena, Monday, January 25, 2021.
Apple emphasizes that all accessories (MagSafe and MagSafe duo) contain radios and magnets and that their electromagnetic fields can interfere with the medical device.
Although a model iPhone 12 contains more magnets than any other Apple smartphone, no greater risk, users should still keep their cell phones away from medical equipment.
According to an article earlier this month, three doctors in the state of Michigan tested the interaction between an iPhone 12 and a patient’s implanted cardiovascular defibrillator. As a result, during testing the medical device goes into “suspended” mode.
Doctors also say medical device manufacturers should strictly warn patients about these interactions. After all, no one can guarantee that everyone is reading the Safety Information for iPhone that Apple has posted.
