Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Sudarshan Sahu, SP Balasubramaniam, Sudarshan Rao, BB Lal and BM Hegde have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the highest civilian honor. KS Chithra, former Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Nipendra Mishra, late Union Minister Ram Vilvas Paswan and former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi have been honored with the Padma Bhushan.
