(New York) The New York Jets awarded quarterback Joe Flacco a one-year contract on Friday.

This gives Sam Darnold an experienced reservist. A neck injury ended Flacco’s only campaign with Denver, however, and surgery was required.

JL Sports agency announced the deal on Twitter, citing a mention of the NFL Network.

Terms were not disclosed, but ESPN argued the deal is worth 1.5 million, and the sum could triple with performance bonuses.

The 35-year-old Flacco spent his first 11 seasons with Baltimore. He guided the Ravens to Super Bowl victory in 2013, being named the game’s MVP.

In 11 seasons, Flacco had 40,067 aerial yards, including 218 touchdown passes. He made 141 interceptions.

In February 2019, the Ravens traded him to Denver for a fourth-round pick.

He injured his neck in Week 8, then missing the rest of the season. He was released by the Broncos last March.

Flacco had neck surgery in April but is expected to be reinstated for training camp if the NFL can move forward on that side.
